A Message from the Interim Chair
Since Magee-Womens Hospital opened its doors in 1911, the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh has built a reputation for clinical excellence, scientific discovery, and training the physicians who go on to lead women's health nationally. Our faculty, residents, fellows, and staff carry that mission forward every day. I'm honored to serve as Interim Chair as the department enters its next chapter.
Anchored by UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital, ranked among the nation's top hospitals for gynecology, our clinical program reaches well beyond Pittsburgh. Generalist and subspecialty care extends across Western, North Central, and Central Pennsylvania, from Erie/Hamot and Altoona to Horizon, Northwest, Washington, and the Harrisburg/York/Carlisle corridor. Across this network, our faculty and advanced practice providers manage more than 25,000 deliveries, 700,000 outpatient visits, and 21,000 surgical procedures each year, spanning divisions in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Urogynecology, Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery, Midwifery, Family Planning, Midlife Health, and Reproductive Infectious Diseases.
That same scale drives our innovation. Alongside the world-renowned scientists of Magee-Womens Research Institute, our faculty are turning discovery into new models of care: remote monitoring that improves postpartum health, advanced surgical and medical management of endometriosis, fertility preservation for patients facing cancer treatment, and leading research in urogynecology and pelvic floor disorders. Federally funded grants and a strong publication record back all of it.
We're equally proud of our role in training the next generation. Our residency program and multiple subspecialty fellowships prepare physicians to practice at the highest level, and our faculty teach and mentor medical students at every stage of their development in women's health.
