Amanda Artsen, MD, MSc

  • Assistant Professor; Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences, Division of Urogynecology & Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery

I am a urogynecologist and BIRCWH scholar at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Magee-Womens Research Institute. I completed my fellowship at UPMC after residency at University of California, San Diego and I went to medical school at Washington University in St. Louis.  I am a surgeon-scientist, focused on improving women’s lives through correcting problems with pelvic and bladder health. I use translational research to improve our treatment options, prevent complications and the need for retreatment, and begin to develop options for prevention of pelvic floor disorders.

Clinical/Research Interest Summary

I treat pelvic and bladder problems to improve each woman’s quality of life and restore her desired level of physical and sexual activity. My research focuses on preventing mesh complications and developing new prolapse treatments.

Clinical Interests/Research Interests

My clinical interests include pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, minimally invasive urogynecologic surgery, female pelvic reconstruction, recovery after childbirth and childbirth injury, recurrent UTI, and bladder and pelvic pain.

My research interests include the host response to biomaterials, novel pelvic organ prolapse treatment modalities, recovery after childbirth, and pathophysiology of pelvic floor disorders.
